Steve Whisnant has served as President for two years and Vice-President for two years. Being a member of FWCA has been the single greatest influence to beginning his writing career. FWCA meets the fourth Saturday of the month in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jim takes over as President in 2004 Steve with his 'mentor' Jim Bell. This was a changing of the guard as Jim became President and Steve moved to Vice-President. Below are several authors who spoke to FWCA during Steve's tenure.

Steve introduced Phillip Martin with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette at a 2004 FWCA meeting. Philip Martin is a columnist and features writer at the newspaper. His books, The Artifical Southerner and The Shortstop’s Son, were published by the University of Arkansas Press. With Rex Nelson, he co-authored The Hillary Factor, a biography of the First Lady in 1993. He was formerly the executive editor of Spectrum Weekly in Little Rock. His work has appeared in The Oxford American, Nerve, Newsweek, The Village Voice and in various other publications. He makes regular guest appearances on CNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews and is an occasional guest on MS-NBC’s Crosstalk program.

Andrea Campbell spoke to FWCA in 2000 (the year before Steve became Vice President). Andrea's work is a must for mystery writers.

Steve introduced Marcia Camp who presented to FWCA in September 2004. Marcia is a wonderful writer and a founding member of FWCA. She has twice won the Sybil Nash Abrams Poetry Award, and is author of You Can't Leave Till You Do the Paperwork: Matters of Life and Death, a self-help book. Among her many accomplishments, she was also nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize.

See Dusty's website below. Dusty Rhodes spoke to FWCA in June 2003. His first book, entitled Man Hunter, was named “Best Western E-book of the year” for 2002 and presented the prestigious EPPIE AWARD.

Ron Wolfe presented in May 2003. He's a features writer and cartoonist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and has co-written three horror novels with a friend. Old Fears and Death's Door are available as trade paperback reprints from Hawk Publishing. Full Moon was under a pseudonym, Mick Winters. Other work includes from Hallmark birthday cards to Marvel comics, a series based on the Hellraiser movies. Yep, he had full charge of the guy with all the pins stuck in his head. Most recently, he's had luck with a novella called Our Friend Electricity, published in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. It will be in two "best fantasy of the year" anthologies.

See Mara's website below. Mara Leveritt presented to FWCA in April 2003. She has worked as a reporter for 25 years, first in daily journalism at the Arkansas Democrat and the Arkansas Gazette, and then as an investigative reporter, editor and columnist at the weekly Arkansas Times. Since focusing her career on the justice system, Leveritt has won a White Award for investigative reporting from the University of Kansas School of Journalism and two first-place awards for legal reporting from the Association of Alternative Weeklies. In 1994, the University of Arkansas named her Arkansas Journalist of the Year. Leveritt left full‑time newspaper work in 1996 to write The Boys on the Tracks, about drug‑related corruption in Arkansas. Despite the book’s locally controversial subject, the Central Arkansas Library System awarded it its Booker Worthen Prize. In 2002, Simon and Schuster published Devil’s Knot, Leveritt’s careful examination of a sensational murder case in West Memphis, Arkansas.

OWL Steve joined OWL in April 2006. With over 300 members, OWL is one of the premiere writing organizations in the country. The group has quarterly meetings/conferences in Branson, Missouri. Details at the website below.
